In-Situ TEM Electrochemical Processes in Conversion-Based Li-Ion Battery Electrodes
Intercalation-based cathode materials such as LiCoO2 (~140 mAh/g) and LiFePO4 (~160 mAh/g) are predominantly used in lithium-ion batteries because they provide exceptional cycling reversibility [1]. However, these materials have low capacity as they are limited to single electron charge transfer reaction, and thus are unlikely candidates for use in electric vehicles (EVs). Conversion compounds ...

متن کاملNanoscale in situ characterization of Li-ion battery electrochemistry via scanning ion conductance microscopy.
Scanning ion conductance microscopy imaging of battery electrodes, using the geometry shown in the figure, is a tool for in situ nanoscale mapping of surface topography and local ion current. Images of silicon and tin electrodes show that the combination of topography and ion current provides insight into the local electrochemical phenomena that govern the operation of lithium ion batteries.
متن کاملAn in situ operando MEMS platform for characterization of Li-ion battery electrodes
This paper presents an in situ operando approach that allows characterization of lithium-ion battery electrodes. A MEMS sensor is designed and integrated with a commercially available Raman spectroscope to enable monitoring the stress and structural changes in the electrodes. An interferometric method with an enhanced image processing algorithm is applied for analyzing the crystal phase-depende...
متن کاملModelling Li Ion Battery Electrode Properties
In recent years, interest in using lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries as power sources for a wide range of devices (particularly portable devices) has grown significantly. There is thus a real need to understand at a fundamental level a wide range of battery performance criteria (energy density, power density, safety, durability, cost). Our working group considered how to model the fundamental elec...
